En route to Paris

Having your plane landed at Charles-de-Gaulle airport would be the best feeling after 7 hours of layover in Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt and a 14-hour flight. Fortunately, thanks to Lufthansa for their amazing in-flight entertainment and services. They’ve got a decent collection of movies – both new and classic favourites! The legroom you get is unbelievable (if you’re a frequent flyer on budget planes)

If you’re travelling with a big group, rent a car to get you out of the airport. Unless you’re feeling adventurous, taking the public transport with so many luggage may not be a good idea. You may want to save the adventurous part sans the baggage. Taxis may not be much of help, as taxi drivers don’t have flawless knowledge of the roads in Paris. There a few different routes to get to one destination, so if you know your preferred route, well then, that’s a bonus for you.

Choosing the right hotel/accommodation

For the full Parisian vibes and dreamy feeling, pick a hotel that has a balcony looking out to the small bustling streets. Think: sipping on a cuppa and reading the morning newspaper, while breathing in the crisp fresh European air. Or you know, just having a smoke, whatever it is – Instagram-worthy, totes.

Getting to the streets

You don’t have to put on a beret and flaunt your fancy red coat to look lavish and stylish like the Parisians. Stay in your neutral hues of brown, beige, white and navy blue, and save yourself from sticking out like a sore tourist thumb. Remember, less is more.

The roads in Paris are pretty easy to explore. Have a map on hand (Google maps work the best, if you have access to data) Side note: Get the trusty ChangiRecommends portable Wifi, or a last minute alternative is to buy the tourist SIM like Lebara – the data services are seamless as you travel across other Europe cities!

Paris - France - Eiffel Tower - Champs-Elysees Shopping Mall

Shopping is for the rich in Paris. Visit Champs-Elysees for your luxury dose of Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Galeries Lafayette should also be one of your pit stop. Their perfume department is colossal! Tip: Shop for your favourite fragrance there, as Singapore might not even have the full range of the brands’ perfumes. Not only it’s cheaper because you can claim VAT, it works best as a gift for someone special back home!

9 touristy things to do in the city:

1. Watch a film or a movie at the cinema. The English movies are dubbed in French and you get English subtitles. It may be confusing to watch, so you could watch a French movie instead (no promises for English subtitles though)

2. Have a picnic outside the Eiffel tower. The best time to do it is in spring or summer! Take a step back and just frolick in the grass.

5. Lock your love down at the Pont des Arts. It’s one of the most cliché things to do, but Paris is a romantic place of pilgrimage for lovers. Sadly, in 2015, the government officials are taking down these locks due to the weight that the bridge is carrying. If you're feeling too drunk in love, then go for it!

6. Go to Disneyland and unleash the child in you! Don’t forget to catch the fireworks!

8. Do the jump shot and touch-the-tip-of-the-Louvre pose. Just one for the gram won’t do any harm, right?
