A single-entry visa valid for 15/30/90 days costs US$25/40/100 respectively. There is a kiosk available for you to apply your visa at the airport itself. However, it may take up to an hour process. So it’s advisable to apply for your visa before you depart.

There are many trekking agencies but you can try engaging this trekking agency for your tour guide. They are very friendly and helpful in arranging your preferred trekking package. Their packages include 3 meals per day, porter services, transport, lodge stay and all the necessary paper works and necessary permits for your trek.

Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can spend a night at the Retreat Serviced Apartment at Swayambhu before departing to Pokhara. It is fairly cheap and can accommodate your whole trekking group. As the trek up to Annapurna Base Camp can take as long as 10 days, the hotel service allows you to leave the baggage that you may not need for the trek. They will help to keep your belongings safely, but don’t forget to return to collect your stuff.

The Greenline bus (available for booking on here) costs around USD10-15 per person. The bus station is located in Thridevi Marg. There is free Wifi on board (although the network wasn’t that great). Departing from Kathmandu in the morning around 9am would take a

7-hour journey ride to Pokhara.

The journey has a few pit stops along the way for lunch and toilet breaks. Upon reaching Pokhara, where you will alight at the Pokhara Baglung Bus Park, the tour guides will navigate you to a backpacker hostel near the Pokhara Lake. Get your full rest to recharge for the 10 days trek to Annapurna Base Camp. Good luck!

Back to mainland

After your trek, there will be 4WD vehicles ready to pick you up and send you back to Pokhara. It will take about 2 hours to arrive back at the backpacker hostel. Have a small celebration of your achievements at a local restaurant together with your porters over dinner. The porters deserve some treats too, you know!

Ultimately, the journey to Annapurna Base Camp requires physical and mental strength for you to conquer the terrains and condition of the trek. You must be prepared to face the challenges that may arise during the trek. Also, not to mention the possibilities of getting altitude sickness as it can be pretty tough. Imagine being in between mountains and just pure nature around you for 10 days, without your social life and technology – basically away from civilisation!

For those who are new to trekking, it is advisable to get the proper training. For novice climbers, you can start trekking lower altitude mountains in Indonesia such as Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen.

Nonetheless, having been to one of the Himalayan mountains to be checked off your bucket list is pretty awesome and no other experience can be traded for that.
